Cox Technic (Flexion and Distraction)

In chiropractic, one of the most used treatment techniques according to the National board of Chiropractic Examiners is “flexion distraction” named by its developer, James M. Cox, DC, DACBR, in 1973. Today, 64.7% of chiropractors reported using it in clinical practice. The evolution of Cox® Technic as it is known today has far exceeded simple flexion and distraction. Keiser University College of Chiropractic Medicine now offers it as core curriculum to all its students and features it as treatment protocol in its out-patient clinic in West Palm Beach.

At the Keiser University WPB campus are the principle investigator who lead the above-mentioned studies, Ram Gudavalli, PhD, and one of the clinicians who performed the Cox® Technic protocols in the biomechanical studies, Ralph Kruse, DC, FACO. Keiser embraces their experience and fosters their continued drive to do the research in order to reveal the biomechanical and clinical effects of chiropractic techniques like Cox® Technic.

The chiropractic adjustment with Cox® Technic protocols is soothing as well as effective. Cox® Technic is segment specific. After a thorough examination resulting in a diagnosis of the origin of pain, treatment begins by focusing on the specific level causing pain. For example, an L5S1 disc herniation causing sciatic leg pain to the little toe would be the spinal segment specifically treated until 50% relief is attained. Your Keiser University chiropractic clinician will fully explain the treatment plan specific to your condition as well as the realistic expectation of pain relief for your condition.

Conditions appropriate for Cox® Technic treatment range from the simple sprain/strain type back pain to post-surgical continued pain after back surgery, pregnancy-related back pain, sciatica, spondylolisthesis, spinal stenosis, disc herniation, slipped disc, synovial cyst, and more.
